Default How to make Shave and haircut proxy *.mi

    Hi all,

I would like to know how to export in *.mi proxy the shave and haircut data ? Exactly, how to export "hair primitive" data (shave global mode) in a *.mi proxy, to be called back in the scene via proxy mode (with or without shader included) like in renderman. It's important cause, we're started a motion picture production and we have a lot of shave data in the scene, quite heavy, so one way it's to call it at rendertime (like I do in renderman). I tried with shave >> polygon datas, but the result are really not the same.

    Thank you in advanced,

    Matt

I would love to know how to do that, but you should ask Joe Alter for that. The shave translation to mental ray is performed by shave plugin.
The hair has be translated to mi to be rendered by mentalRay, so it must be possible to have a mi proxy with hair.
But the translating is done when rendering the scene. I think when doing a mi export, the shave translaton is not called so you don't have it in your proxy.

    Hi MiniZun,

Thanks for your answer, I already ask Joe Alter but not answer yet. When'll have answers, I'll post here for everyone knowledge.

If I know it correctly, shave exports its own shave data file during export/rendering. From this data file it creates the hairs with a geometry shader.
