    Question Asking for help..

    Hi
    I am lighting and rendering artist. I use maya mental ray for my work.. I am planning to buy HP workstation... Please Suggest me should i buy HP Z1 Workstation or HP Z620 Workstation ? Which of these workstation will be suitable for maya mental ray use ? If i buy HP Z1 workstation, will it be a good option because i want to use it for mental ray lighting and rendering...
    So Please suggest me....

    If you buy HP/DELL/ETC workstation you pat 50% more for 50% less. I suggest contacting folks over here and they will set you with beast machine. www.pcspecialist.co.uk if you in UK.

    I just purchased a Z420 6core 3.2GHz machine with a Quatro 4000. about $3000

    It is purely used as a workstation and high res production rendering is done on external render nodes.

    But the machine has been great. Not overly expensive I don't think. Perfect for general 3d work and render testing, lighting/look dev etc.

    I have one more question. If I use maya on Macpro, how efficiently will it work??? I mean I don't know if Mac will be compatible or windows will be???? Please suggest me that if I should go for a Macpro or Hp Z1 for useing maya mental ray lighting and rendering????

    For finding more plug-ins I would recommend Windows, either on a dual boot MacPro or just a Windows machine.

    The hardware is nearly the same (intel chips, graphics etc.) Most places I have worked on a MacPro we booted into Windows or Linux. Not sure why they bought it only to boot out of OSX. . .
