Hello --- I've just released a first version of a tool i've been working on and hope other mental ray users will find it useful.

It's a shader with an embedded language that lets you author shading code interactively within your 3D package. It's currently being tested with XSI, but should work fine with Maya or Max.

It features generic color/vector/scalar inputs for connecting to other shading nodes, color and vector types, access to *some* parts of the state, etc.

It's far from complete, but progressing quickly and quite useable already

Theres a couple of lame examples to give a flavor of what it can do. See 'Syntax' for current mr feature availability.

Feedback welcome

Hello,

That's interesting, but actually mental images is preparing something similar, a visual editor for shader graphs and a high level scripting language named MetaSLâ„¢ like you did :

Yes I know. But i prefer tools that i can actually use today instead of future vapour. :)

I've just put up a new version. New features include exposing texture spaces, and adding some illumination models. Also some performance improvements. Enjoy.

I"ve put up a new verison. Main change is basic support for geometry shaders. Various other syntax fixes and improvements.
