    Hi,

    Thanks for sharing this. I came to know about this from Jeff Patton's post.

    I just installed it (downloaded from FTP) and I am not getting it worked. It renders black and shows black in material editor too.
    Though it shows under "Nvidia" as "Nvidia iRay material". How do I get it to work?

    I am getting this error : "MSG 0.0 17 MB error: Custom translation interface for mtl/tex '01 - Default ( iray Material )': Shader declaration "iray_layered_material_phen_2" not found."

    You might have missed a step in the installation instructions. Make sure you copied iray_layered_material_max.mi to the correct location.

    Yes, I double checked. But .mi file shows texts not properly arranged. Is your .mi file look same too?

    this is the path : "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2013\NVIDIA\shaders_autoload\mentalray\include"

    The text is likely formatted with linux line-endings, which some apps like Notepad can't handle.

    My advice would be to check whether the .mi file is even loaded by 3ds Max: try enabling all messages types in the rendering preferences (info and progress), then restart 3ds Max and immediately open the mental ray message log. You should see messages about the loading of .mi files: which files were loaded, where they were loaded from. Try to confirm whether or not the iray file was loaded, and see what path the other files were loaded from.

    Yes, it gave that error when max just started. I will check once again and let you know.

    So when I start max, I don't get any error.
    When I set iray as renderer, and open "iray material" in material editor. It shows just black even material editor set to "Nvidia iRay"
