    Thanks for your little example. I am able to reproduce what you are seeing, it does convert the files automatically but then it does not seem to use them during rendering, at least in my Maya installation. Which version are you testing with ?

    Something is fishy, I used exactly that version. The conversion seems to run fine but the textures are not properly replaced when rendering with mental ray, both with embedded rendering and file export. We continue to investigate.

    Manually replacing files works nicely, though, mental ray itself is fine. So this might be caused by a scripting error somewhere.

    Thank you for investigating.
    I was always looking for a smooth texture workflow and it sounds like a great approach, to keep the original files in the file path but render the mipmas (or exrs).
