Default Are caustics possible with GI Next?

Can caustics be used when using mental ray 3.14 v1 and GI Next and if so what are the steps I need to take in making that happen.

    Thanks so much,

Yes, Caustics can be run with GI Next. Which DCC app are you using?
You would turn it on as you normally would. In Maya, the caustics have moved to Legacy in the Quality tab.

    Thanks Bart.

I'm running Maya 2017 update 2. My lighting setup is simple just a IBL node and a directional light. Should I click emit photons on the directional light, becasue when I did that it crashed my render.

    Thanks again,

It shouldn't crash your render, so we'd love the scene to test for ourselves if possible. However, directional lights are not typically used with caustics. That is usually a point or spot for a caustics light source.

There is a way to set up photons to run from the IBL if you look at more of the advanced settings for it in the AE.
You won't see much effect from caustics unless there is a good intensity bright spot or more in the IBL texture map.
