Default Any way to add normal maps to MDL?

Hey all, I can find a way to add normal map to a flexible material model.

    Am I missing something?

In the MDL flex_material, use the "bump" slot and attached a custom "NVIDIA MDL Shader". Press the "..." button to open the MDL collection, then type "normal" in the search field. Pick the "core_definitions::normalmap_texture" node, and select the "Normalmap file" on your disk. Done! You can adjust the UV tiling and strength of the effect here.

So much of this would be solved having an node editor IMO. I still find the interface of creating materials for iray clunky and not intuitive which is a bit annoying. Defaults are ok but making materials for iray in C4D is not enjoyable.

Redshift, Octane, Arnold all have this capability and makes them stronger tools because of it. Substance, which uses iray, is node based as well.
